Listen to Dr. Lori Desautels on the "Wag Tales Podcast!"
May 12, 2025
Dr. Lori Desautels - an expert and pioneer in the field of applied educational neuroscience - advocates for teachers and students alike. With a focus on a neurobiological understanding of behavior, she offers strategies to help teachers support students, so that their brains are biologically ready and able to learn new information.
What exactly does this mean? Put simply, the biology of the brain has an impact on behavior, especially for kids. And, when we see behaviors that indicate that our students might not be functioning fully from their cortex - the place in the brain responsible for logic and reasoning - we also know that their brains are not primed (in that moment) to learn and retain new information. So, it’s our jobs as teachers and parents to support our kids, with this understanding of their brains, and to prepare them to get to a place where learning can occur.
As a guest on Megan Corcoran’s “Wag Tales Podcast,” Dr. Desautels dives into the importance of understanding our own neurobiology as adults, parents, and teachers - so that we can really guide and teach our students that same understanding of their bodies and brains.
We highly recommend giving this podcast a listen, to hear the genuine and inspirational conversation about how we can best support our students in times of regulation and dysregulation.
